At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited India from 31 October to 1 November 2019 for the 5th Indo-German Inter-Governmental Consultations. Chancellor Merkel was accompanied by the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, as well as further delegates and industry representatives.

On 24 September 2019, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the National Medical Products Administration of China (NMPA) held a joint workshop on current regulatory topics for medical devices in Suzhou, China. As part of the Sino-German cooperation on Quality Infrastructure, the event provided a platform for dialogue and direct exchange between German authorities and industry representatives with Chinese regulators.

Government and industry representatives from Germany and India discussed their partnership in the automotive sector during the India Day at the International Automotive Exhibition (IAA) on 13 September 2019 in Frankfurt. The event ‘Drive Forward Together’ was organised on 17 June 2019 in New Delhi by GIZ – the German Agency for International Cooperation – in collaboration with the German Embassy and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). The event witnessed participation from around 80 government and industry representatives, who discussed the road ahead for Indo-German cooperation in the automotive sector.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Indian Ministry of Communications issued a notification on 12 March 2019 to extend the enforcement date of the mandatory testing and certification of telecommunications equipment (MTCTE) to 1 August 2019.
